Sen. Cardin Town Hall Meeting in Towson

For Immediate Release Monday August 10, 2009
Contact: Chris Cavey, Baltimore County Republican Party, 443-465-1002

The Baltimore County Republican Party will be joining their voices this afternoon with Americans for Prosperity, Patients First, Maryland Freedom Coalition, Maryland Taxpayers Assoc. along with several senior citizen and health professional groups to question Sen. Ben Cardin this evening at Towson University.

"The healthcare issue is not a partisan issue; it is a problem facing every American and should be discussed as such." Stated Chris Cavey, Chairman of the Baltimore County Republican Party. He then continued: "Many citizens naturally fear government intrusion into their lives, especially senior citizens, many who will worry about future benefits and availability. Sen. Cardin needs to answer many questions tonight."

HR 3200 is over 1000 pages and a complicated bill on a controversial and complex issue. Town hall meetings are great forums to use to determine public interest and awareness. Sen. Cardin is to be commended on holding this event and reversing his decision to making this now an open event.

Mr. Cavey stated: "When was the last time you saw such public interest and active participation about a public policy issue or a House bill? The Senator should realize that this is not a quick fix; and one town hall meeting will not suffice to answer all the questions Marylanders have concerning how this bill will affect their lives and their future."
